Analysis of Date’s Market Functioning (Phoenix Dactylifera L), in Ouargla, South-Est of Algeria: Challenges and Constraints

This study aims to analyse date’s market functioning and constraints that are facing it in Southeast of Algeria, Ouargla region. To analyze potential market pathways (traders, collectors and intermediaries) 100 respondents were randomly selected. Descriptive statistical analysis has been applied to achieve the research’s gaols. Analysis confirms that, Ouargla does not have an organized date-palm market dedicated to dates only, and which is characterized by total anarchy mainly due to lack of improved and advanced management, regulation and a lot of intermediaries spread. Date’s marketing in this area of study is complex because it is a string composed of producers, collectors, storers and mandataries in upstream. However, packers, processors and exporters are in downstream, thus a stakeholder’s divergence is created, for varietie’s quality as well as destinations in the marketplace’s channels. Most of traders are at an economically active age. Therefore, they should be able to perform their marketing functions effectively. Date’s varieties that are sold in the area of study differ from trader to another which is depending on their availability customers, prices offered as well as operator’s financial capacity. Indeed, 46% of fresh dates are available in market during the full harvest period but unfortunately this coincides with local and external market’s saturation where imbalanced supply and demand induce lower date’s price. This study allows to identify main constraints of date’s sector marketing that hinder its efficiency, which are related to technical, professional, social - cultural and commercial environment as a result this sector’s market suffers from serious dysfunctions.

Quantity, Quality and Cost of Household Waste in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate

In the current stage is to calculate the daily generated quantities of solid household waste, as well as to indicate the annual amounts spent on the stages of collection, transportation and landfilling of this waste, as well as to identify the practical reality of the processes and stages of solid household waste management followed by the municipal institutions of the governorate to indicate the possibility of establishing an investment project Dedicated to recycling plastic, paper and glass materials and benefiting from organic materials as fertilizers for the soil or for energy production, with the aim of activating sustainable development in the governorate.

The quality of Heteroclarias with increased storage time using Quality Index Method (QIM) was evaluated. 140 live samples of Heteroclarias (average weight 230 + 7g) were used for the study. QIM was used to evaluate the key parameters in fish deterioration, twenty semi-trained assessors was used for the sensory evaluation. Data obtained were subjected to appropriate statistical tools using SPSS 16.0 version. Quality Index (QI) of Heteroclarias increases with increased post slaughter time when the fish was left at ambient temperatures (27 + 3°C) indicating decrease in fish quality with time. High correlation of (r=0.993) with a high coefficient of determination (R2=0.986) was obtained indicating that 98.6% of the variation in post slaughter time was explained by quality attributes; the regression equation was significant F(9, 130)=1080 (p<0.0001) indicating that it could be used for prediction and estimation of fish quality, the QI used in this study is therefore recommended to be used by relevant agencies for predicting fish quality.
Practical Applications :Fish is highly perishable despite its nutritional value, consumers becoming increasingly interested in the quality of fish they consume and the physical attributes of the fish is very vital for on the spot assessment of fish quality. This study provide quality index that could be used for prediction and estimation of fish quality using sensory evaluation.

Effect of Substitution of Urea With Different Type and Levels of Ruminant Manure on Nutritive Value of Rice Straw Silage

This study was conducted in Nutrition Lab. to investigate the effect of the type and level of substitution of urea with ruminant manure, M (sheep, cow and buffalo) on basis of nitrogen (N) content on the nutritive value of rice straw silage (RSS). Accordingly silages were nominated as, S-RSS, C-RSS and B-RSS. Urea (U) was substituted with dried manure at 6 combinations, 100:0, 90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40 and 50:50 of U:M. Silage samples were prepared by treating chopped straw with pre-treated solution contained 10% low quality debis and 2% urea. Results showed that lower (P˂0.01) DM loss (11.4%) was observed in S-RSS, and with addition of urea only (3.6%).
Samples of S-RSS and C-RSS recorded higher (P˂0.01) Fleig points (Fp) as compared with those prepared by the addition of B-RSS, 60.42, 55.58 and 49.59 respectively. Reduction (P˂0.01) in this parameter was noticed in samples prepared with a combination of 100:0. Aerobic stability (AS) was a reduced (P˂0.01) in samples prepared by addition of S-RSS by 15 and 13 hours in comparison with samples of C-RSS and B-RSS respectively. Samples prepared with combination of 100:0 were prior (P˂0.01) as compared with other samples.
Results also showed an increase (P˂0.01) in in vitro digestibility of organic matter (IVOMD) in samples of S-RSS in comparison with samples prepared by addition of C-RSS and B-RSS, 49.99, 44.59 and 42.77% respectively. Samples prepared with combination of 100:0 recorded lower (P˂0.05) in vitro digestibility of dry matter (IVDMD) as compared with combinations of 70:30 and 60:40 of U: M, 40.52, 45.36 and 45.94% respectively.
